Tesla 2025.38 Software Update Adds New Scroll Wheel Shortcuts, Dashcam Improvements, and More [Release Notes]

Tesla has now begun rolling out its latest 2025.38 software update, bringing a new wave of refinements that make the in-car experience more intuitive, informative, and connected. We have already told you about two of the biggest additions, Grok for Canadians, and 3D buildings for navigation, but the update includes several other enhancements.

Refined Dashcam Viewer and Event Details

Among the most practical improvements in version 2025.38 is a smarter Dashcam Viewer. Drivers can now see street names included in recorded event details, making it easier to identify where incidents occurred — a useful upgrade for insurance reports or trip reviews.

The Mobile Dashcam Viewer has also received a resolution boost, streaming and downloading footage in higher quality for Tesla App version 4.49.5 and newer.

New Scroll Wheel Functions

Tesla’s left scroll wheel has seen new shortcuts added. Holding down the scroll wheel offers drivers quicker access to functions that were previously buried within the touchscreen. First introduced in 2023.12, the update now also allows you to toggle Bioweapon Defense Mode, Mute Navigation, and even Music Light Sync, depending on vehicle configuration.

Previous shortcuts include adjusting screen brightness, changing Acceleration Mode, opening the glovebox, saving dashcam footage, and more.

Improved Onboarding and Profile Management

To help new owners get acquainted with their vehicles, the update introduces a built-in Onboarding Guide, located under App Launcher > Manual > Get To Know Your Tesla. The guide explains everything from driver settings to Autopilot controls — part of Tesla’s broader effort to make first-time ownership more seamless as its customer base grows globally.

Meanwhile, driver profile management has become smarter. Owners can now require a phone key before a profile is selected, preventing accidental or unauthorized changes when multiple users share the car.

Apple Music and Media Quality-of-Life Updates

Tesla continues to polish its entertainment ecosystem with a revamped Apple Music interface, featuring organized playlist folders, expanded artist pages, and a new “Recently Played” shelf. The update also allows users to log in via Tesla app notifications for faster access to their media libraries.
