Tesla Diner reduces menu amid surging demand

Tesla is reducing the menu at the Hollywood Tesla Diner. The automaker-turned-food-vendor said the offerings had to be reduced to improve service efficiency.

Customers were initially able to order from a diverse food lineup, including burgers, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, etc. However, just a few weeks in, Tesla has pared down the menu, accessible from the car’s infotainment system, to only five sandwiches, two sides, two pie flavors, shakes, and soft drinks.

According to Eater, Tesla Diner chef Eric Greenspan stated that the menu would evolve. He also explained that the change was necessary to cope with unprecedented demand. However, Greenspan promised Easter eggs and did not rule out specials.

Other changes include eliminating the veggie patty option for the burger, and breakfast items now available only in the mornings. Classic fountain drinks are no longer being served.

CEO Elon Musk floated the idea of a Tesla Diner in 2018. The two-story complex was designed by Tesla’s head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, with a retro-futuristic theme. The diner is operated by restaurateur Bill Chait.

The Tesla Diner combines dining with EV charging. Its standout features include giant outdoor screens that offer a drive-in movie experience while customers wait for their batteries to charge at any of the 80 V4 Supercharger stalls. Eater reports that the diner operates from 6 am to midnight, despite Tesla’s claims of being open around the clock.
