Tesla has quietly stopped taking new orders for its flagship Model S and Model X vehicles in Europe. The change to remove the Model S and Model X from the online configurator took place earlier this month, and comes after Tesla introduced a refresh to their two premium vehicles in North America in June, leading to questions on whether the updated designs will ever make their way to Europe.
Earlier this year Tesla was still taking orders for the pre-refresh Model S and Model X in Europe. However, in March, delivery windows for the two vehicles were extended further into the future, with estimated wait times stretching to July or August. At the time, the refresh had not been announced, but hinted at by a company executive, suggesting the longer wait times was to account for the upcoming redesign.
However, Tesla has now removed the Model S and Model X from its online configurator. Customers in major European markets such as Germany, France, the UK, and Norway are now redirected to existing inventory listings when attempting to configure a new Model S or X on Tesla’s website.
Does this mean the Model S and Model X are dead in Europe? Not necessarily, as this isn’t the first time Tesla has taken its premium models offline in Europe. The same thing happened following the major refresh in 2021, when Tesla halted orders for the Model S and X across Europe for an extended period, leading to a two-year gap between deliveries. A similar pattern may be playing out again with this latest refresh.
With Europe now removed from the Model S/X configurator, North America remains the final major market for Tesla’s original flagship vehicles. There have been no reports of existing customers with either a Model S or Model X on order receiving a cancellation notice., so whether this move is temporary—potentially to introduce the refresh—or the beginning of a full phase-out remains unclear.
