Waymo to Launch Fully Autonomous Robotaxi Service in Dallas by 2026

Waymo has announced plans to bring its fully driverless robotaxi service to Dallas in 2026. The Texas expansion is part of Waymo’s broader strategy to scale its ride-hailing network across the U.S., with Miami and Washington, D.C., also set to join the lineup of cities next year.

Unlike many of its previous expansions where it partnered with Uber, Waymo has instead partnered with Avis Budget Group to manage its Dallas fleet. Avis will handle vehicle readiness, infrastructure, maintenance, and depot operations for Waymo’s self-driving Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles, which are already undergoing testing on the streets of downtown Dallas.

The partnership marks a significant step for Avis, with CEO Brian Choi describing the agreement as a “pivotal milestone” as the company transitions from a traditional rental car business to a leading provider of fleet management and mobility solutions.

“Together, we’re committed to making scaled autonomous mobility a reality for the people of Dallas,” Choi said. “We aim to expand to additional cities in the near future.”

Waymo’s co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, emphasized the company’s mission to provide safer, more reliable transportation options:

“We look forward to bringing our fully autonomous ride-hailing service to the people of Dallas next year, offering a new era of safe and seamless transportation. Working together with our fleet partner Avis, Waymo will offer more riders a stress-free way to get around.”

Residents and visitors in Dallas will be able to hail rides through the Waymo app, which supports 24/7 driverless trips in select markets. In some cities, Waymo also integrates its services with Uber’s ride-hailing platform, but the Dallas launch will focus on its proprietary system.

Waymo is currently operational in Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, where it conducts over 250,000 paid trips each week. The company has logged more than 100 million autonomous miles on public roads, supported by a growing network of test locations in more than 10 cities, including New York and Philadelphia.
