Lucid Brings Hands-Free Driving to DreamDrive Pro [VIDEO]

Lucid is taking a significant step forward in its advanced driver assistance technology with the addition of hands-free driving and lane change features to its DreamDrive Pro system. The new capabilities will be delivered via an over-the-air (OTA) software update starting July 30, 2025, for Lucid Air owners. Gravity SUV owners will have to wait a little longer until they receive the update later this year.

The update enables two new features: Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist. These will allow drivers to operate their Lucid vehicles without touching the steering wheel, however changing lanes will still require the driver to initiate using the turn signal stalk.

These features only work under certain conditions, such as on compatible, divided highways, which in other words means on pre-mapped highways. The company did not elaborate on how many highways have been pre-mapped.

DreamDrive Pro is Lucid’s top-tier ADAS package, building on the standard DreamDrive Premium suite. It incorporates an array of 32 sensors, including LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and both visible-light and surround-view cameras, supported by an infrared camera-based driver monitoring system.

Kai Stepper, Lucid’s Vice President of ADAS and Autonomous Driving, said the update represents the next step in Lucid’s broader roadmap for software-defined vehicles:

“With our in-house software stack, a comprehensive suite of 32 sensors, and regular OTA updates, we have a roadmap to continue to deliver significantly more functionality to our owners in the future.”

The rollout marks Lucid’s formal entry into a growing field of automakers offering hands-free driving systems. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Ford’s BlueCruise, GM’s Super Cruise, and BMW’s Highway Assistant are already available on various models. However, unlike some of its rivals, Lucid’s system is not offered as a subscription — it’s a one-time purchase, which could appeal to cost-conscious buyers.
