The all-new ID.3 electric vehicle (EV) from Volkswagen has been available for pre-order since May of 2019. A few months later, it was announced the special first edition run of the car, limited to 30,000 units, had sold out.
Those reservation holders may be in for a long wait to receive their vehicle, as one of the biggest UK dealer networks for VW revealed their allocation for 1,500 units sold out in just 48 hours. Since then, the waiting list in the UK has grown to over 20,000 names long.
The popularity of the ID.3 in the UK is a sign that their is beginning to be a monumental shift in how people react to electric vehicles, as prices become closer to traditional gas vehicles, and range increases to a point where range anxiety no longer exists.
“To sell 1,500 from a range that hasn’t even hit the market yet is unprecedented and suggests we are on the cusp of an electric vehicle revolution.” – Nick Wells, Alan Day Group
The first production ID.3 vehicles are expected to arrive late next month. They are priced at just below €30,000 ($43,000 CAD), and have a range of 420km (261 miles).
