Starlink to apply for commercial license in India early next year

According to Country Director Sanjay Bhargava, Starlink will apply for a commercial license in India next month.

Bhargava made the announcement on Linkedin, saying that if all goes well the application will be submitted “on or before 31st January 2022.”

Bhargava was likely pushed to make the announcement after the Indian Department of Telecommunications instructed SpaceX earlier this week to refrain from selling their Starlink satellite internet services in India.

The government also urged their citizens to not pre-order the service until the company obtains the required license.

Starlink has big goals for India, hoping to offer up to 200,000 terminals in over 160,000 districts across India by the end of 2022.
