Starlink has officially launched its satellite internet service in Kuwait, with Elon Musk confirming the launch on X to much fanfare from Kuwaiti residents.
The launch of Starlink services comes at a complex time for the Gulf nation, with war raging around it and missile strikes and drone attacks becoming a regular occurrence in Kuwait City and throughout the country.
Earlier this week, Tehran targeted critical infrastructure and military sites in the country, including the Kuwait International Airport.
Starlink could become an important part of the country’s overall communication infrastructure. Although internet infrastructure has remained online so far, the addition of Starlink will only strengthen the connectivity for government use and citizens. Before the conflict, the new service was expected to provide internet connectivity in remote areas and provide increased communication stability for residents.
Starlink hardware for Kuwait residents will cost 92 KWD (~413 CAD) for the Mini Starlink receiver and 122 KWD (about 548 CAD) for the Standard model. The monthly service plan costs 31 KWD (about 130 CAD) for unlimited data.
As part of a regional promotion, users will get their first month free.
New customers should expect to receive their Starlink kit within 1-2 weeks, with service launching the day they receive their Mini or Standard kit.
