Zoom officially announces its video conferencing app is coming soon to Tesla vehicles

Zoom has officially announced it will soon be adding its video conferencing app to Tesla vehicles. The company announced the addition at its annual Zoomtopia 2022 Event on Tuesday.

Earlier this year Tesla released a promotional video giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the newly released V11 software update. Although it wasn’t specifically mentioned in the video, eagle-eyed fans noticed a small icon on the screen that appeared to look like the Zoom logo.

The company never confirmed the presence of Zoom in the video, but CEO Elon Musk had previously hinted that being able to attend virtual meetings in your Tesla was “definitely a future feature.”

Today it was finally confirmed that feature is coming, except not by Tesla.

The upcoming addition was announced at Zoomtopia by Nitasha Walia, Zoom’s Group Product Manager, Meetings. Walia did not provide many specifics about how or when Zoom will be added, but did say the company is excited to bring it to “all new Tesla models soon.”

Walia also shared a brief demo of the feature working a Model Y, showing the Zoom app appears to use the vehicle’s cabin camera located above the rear-view mirror. This is the first time Tesla owners will get to see what the sometimes controversial camera actually sees.

The demo also showed that if you sync your calendar to your Tesla vehicle, you will be able to access a Zoom meeting directly from the in-car calendar.

Aside from when it will be released, another detail that is unknown is whether Zoom will only work on WiFi, or if Tesla will allow owners who have signed up for Premium Connectivity to use the car’s data plan to hold a virtual meeting when no WiFi connection is available.

You can watch the brief demonstration of Zoom in a Tesla in the video below.
