VinFast Aiming To Begin Canadian Deliveries In June

Vietnamese electric car manufacturer VinFast is set to deliver its second batch of EVs to North America on April 4, with 900 vehicles bound for California and another 900 headed for Canada.

This follows the shipment of 999 VF 8 City Edition vehicles to California in late 2022. VinFast also plans to send 700 standard VF 8s to Europe in mid-June.

VinFast CEO Le Thi Thu Thuy told Bloomberg the company expects to start delivering the standard version of the VF 8 to US customers in May and Canadians in early June. “We are working toward launching the standard VF 8 and will make sure to have all the required certificates at the time of delivery to customers,” Thuy said.

The VF 8 SUV has an estimated driving range of 293 miles (471km), with a price of $57,500 in Canada. VinFast is keen to gain a foothold in highly competitive overseas markets, with its City Edition electric cars, which have a driving range of up to 207 miles (333km), having been offered at a lease price starting at $399 USD per month for 24 months.

Their expansion outside of Vietnam has been slow, with just 45 VF8 SUVs delivered to customers in California earlier this month. The company was planning on starting deliveries toward the end of 2022.
