In February Toyota promised to introduce three new electric vehicles (EVs) for the U.S. market in 2021. Based on a press release it appears they are also ready to introduce an EV for the European market, and they plan to reveal it next week.
Toyota’s European newsroom published a two line press release yesterday offering almost no details on the upcoming EV. The only information provided was its name, the X prologue (or maybe it’s just X, since prologue means preface, opening, or introduction), and a teaser image showing a partial view of the front of the vehicle.
Toyota is today giving a small glimpse of its upcoming X prologue.
Please join us online at www.x-prologue.com on Wednesday 17th March at 10:00 CET to see the full reveal.
Despite introducing the pioneering Prius more than 20 years ago, Toyota has so far had very little interest in EVs. The Japanese automaker has also been reluctant to acknowledge that EVs are the future of transportation. That was evident last year when Toyota President Akio Toyoda said Tesla still had a long way to go to catch up to them.
We’ll have to wait until next week to see if they’re now serious with the introduction of their first EV.
