The numbers are in, and the Tesla Model 3 took the top spot in EV sales in Spain last month, just edging out the Model Y.
Per data compiled by Ideaauto, the top five EV sellers in August were:
- Tesla Model 3 – 770 units
- Tesla Model Y – 678 units
- MG4 – 187 units
- Dacia Spring – 168 units
- Mercedes EQE – 123 units
This is the first month the Model 3 has beaten out the Model Y. However, the Model Y continues to lead the overall sales list with 4,323 units sold compared to the Model 3 with 2,960. Rounding out the top three is the MG4, with 2,239 units registered.
The Volvo XC40 took home the top-selling vehicle on the plug-in hybrid side, just edging out the Kia Sportage. The top five sales leaders on the plug-in hybrid side were:
- Volvo VC40 – 238 units
- Kia Sportage – 229 units
- Mercedes GLC – 183 units
- Ford Kuga – 174 units
- Hyundai Tucson – 131 units
Although these numbers are good, they are dwarfed by traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. For instance, the top-selling car in the country was the Toyota C-HR, with 13,397 units sold. At least to say, EVs still have a way to go until they see any sort of market penetration in the overall vehicle space in Spain, but early numbers are positive.
