Tesla is set to mark a significant milestone in its global expansion by opening its first store in South America. The first location will open in Chile, in the upscale Parque Arauco mall in Santiago, later this month, not only signifying Tesla’s entry into the Chilean market but also represents its initial foray into the South American automotive sector.
In preparation for this significant launch, Tesla registered the name Tesla Chile SpA in September. According to documents filed with the government, Tesla’s registration in Chile is not limited to car sales but also covers activities related to energy generation and electricity. In another sign of its preparations for expansion into South America, the company has been actively recruiting for various positions in Santiago, including a country manager, over the last several months.
All of that work has paid off and Tesla will open their first store in Chile at the end of this month. According to invitations sent to customers in Chile, Tesla will be hosting an event on January 31 at the Parque Arauco mall. This event will include food, drinks, and opportunities to interact with Tesla advisors and schedule test drives.

However, Tesla’s foray into the Chilean market will not be without challenges. EV sales in Chile accounted for only 2.5% of total vehicle sales in the first nine months of the year, according to Chile’s car association. This statistic reflects the broader barriers that EV sellers face in the region, including limited infrastructure and consumer awareness.
