Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Could Debut in the Boring Company’s Vegas Loop by Year-End

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology could be coming to the Boring Company’s Vegas Loop as early as the end of this year.

The Vegas Loop, a network of tunnels currently under construction beneath Las Vegas, has been operational for over three years with Tesla vehicles manually transporting passengers between key locations such as the Las Vegas Convention Center and Resorts World Las Vegas. However, that may soon change with plans to introduce FSD (Supervised) to the Vegas Loop fleet of vehicles by the end of the year, according to a statement from Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to the the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Hopefully this will get started just lightly, using a driver assistance tool by the end of this year,” Hill said.

The Vegas Loop presents an ideal environment for the deployment of FSD. The tunnels are well-marked, well-lit, and have a low speed limit of 25 mph (40 km/h), making them a controlled and predictable environment. This reduces the complexities and variables that FSD might encounter on open roads, providing a safer and more manageable setting for semi-autonomous operations.

This isn’t the first time there has been a mention of using FSD in the Vegas Loop. Ever since the inception of the underground tunnel network, the plan has been to use FSD to transport customers across Vegas, although the timeline for the release has been unclear.

Back in 2022 CEO Elon Musk made a similar statement as Hill, predicting that FSD would be operational in the Vegas Loop by the end of that year.

The Boring Company has been steadily expanding the Vegas Loop, with additional stations and tunnels under development. The goal is to create a 68-mile tunnel network with 93 stations, covering key areas of Las Vegas, including the Strip, downtown, and neighboring regions. This massive infrastructure project aims to alleviate surface traffic congestion by transporting passengers in Tesla vehicles through a point-to-point tunnel system.
