Tesla was the most searched car brand in Canada for 2024, according to a new study that looked at automotive search trends across the globe. The Texas-based automaker wasn’t only the most searched car brand in Canada, with Tesla also being the most searched brand in the United States, South Korea, several Scandinavian countries, parts of Europe, and even some regions of Africa.
The study, which analyzed Google Trends data across 155 countries, revealed that while Tesla was the most popular in North America, Toyota maintained its position as the most searched car brand worldwide, topping the charts in 64 countries.
While Tesla thrives in tech-forward nations and regions with strong EV adoption, Toyota remains a favourite in areas where affordability, reliability, and fuel efficiency are key purchasing factors. Toyota’s global dominance can be attributed to its diverse lineup, which caters to a wide range of consumer needs.
However, the gap between the two automotive giants is narrowing. Tesla claimed the top spot in 34 countries in 2024, up from 29 in 2023, showcasing its growing foothold in markets traditionally dominated by legacy automakers.
BMW, another major player in the search rankings, ranked third globally. The luxury automaker saw its strongest performance in Europe and parts of the Middle East. Meanwhile, brands like Fiat, Hyundai, and Nissan also experienced notable growth.
