Tesla update 2024.32.3 adds hands free frunk and child safety feature

Tesla owners has started receiving software update 2024.32.3 over-the-air. The update delivers two new features over what was included in 2024.32, including a hands free frunk and child safety feature that could save lives.

Tesla vehicles have gained a nifty feature with the latest update 2024.32.3, which it has started pushing out this week. The update now allows the front trunk, or frunk, to be accessed more easily without touching it.

To activate the feature, the driver only has to stand before the frunk and ensure nothing stands between the car and the Phone Key. After a chiming sound, the frunk will open on its own. This simple feature builds on the hands free trunk that was released earlier this year.

Unfortunately, only the new Model 3 Highland, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck will get this feature as these are the only vehicles equipped with Ultra-wideband support, which provides the improved accuracy that allows the feature to work as designed. The feature will be most handy for Cybertruck owners, as the frunk on the electric truck is powered.

An analysis of the update by hacker @greentheonly has revealed other features in the update. There is also a child safety feature called “smart child seats” that will alert parents when they forget a child in the car. Leaving children behind in the car is a serious issue, as it can cause heatstroke when the interior temperature rises, and there have been high-profile cases of fatality.

As we have previously reported, update 2024.32 also adds a new navigation function that warns drivers of hazards ahead by reading road danger icons or signs such as accidents, speed cameras, and more.
