Tesla to eliminate almost 700 jobs in Nevada

Tesla’s job cuts continue to be confirmed; this time, they are at the the company’s Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada.

According to a government notice filed late last week and obtained by CBS 8, Tesla will lay off 693 workers from the Sparks, Nevada facility. Per the notice, the layoffs will take effect on June 14, 2024.

Tesla confirmed last week that they were moving forward with a ten percent decrease in its global workforce. The expected cuts will affect around 14,000 employees. So far, Tesla has confirmed, through government notices, cuts to around seven thousand jobs in the United States, including the Nevada jobs. This includes:

  • 3,332 employees in California.
  • 2,688 jobs in Texas
  • Two hundred eighty-five employees at the labelling team for its Autopilot driver assistance software based in Buffalo, New York.
  • 40 employees on the US-based marketing

In addition to the cuts in the United States, Tesla also announced the plan to eliminate 400 full-time jobs at Giga Berlin. Per German news reports, there could be additional cuts to come at the European gigafactory.

The restructuring will likely continue as Tesla looks to combat slowing demand and falling margins with increased streamlining and reorganization. It is unclear if there will be additional cuts stateside or if the majority of future eliminations will come from their overseas facilities.
