Tesla Superchargers Now Featured on U.S. Highway Signs

Tesla is trying a new way to normalize electric vehicle (EV) charging—its Superchargers are now appearing on official highway service signs. The first sign is located at Exit 155 near Arizona Mills in Tempe, Arizona, showing the familiar Tesla logo beneath the “EV Charging” heading, right alongside familiar fuel brands Shell and others.

A milestone for EV visibility

For decades, the blue service signs on U.S. highways have directed drivers to gas, food, and lodging options at upcoming exits. EV charging, however, has rarely been included. That began to change after the U.S. Department of Transportation updated federal rules, allowing fast charging stations that meet certain standards to be listed.

With Tesla’s Supercharger network meeting those requirements, the company is now taking advantage of the opportunity to reach drivers directly on the road.

From Range Anxiety to Range Confidence

According to Tesla, more than 99.98% of road trips in the United States are already possible using its charging network. For those who drive a Tesla, this fact is reinforced daily through the car’s software. But for many consumers still hesitant about EV adoption, the lack of visible charging options is a lingering psychological barrier.

Highway signage could play an important role in overcoming that perception. Seeing “EV Charging” listed alongside fuel brands makes charging infrastructure feel just as accessible and reliable as traditional gas stations. It signals that the transition to electric mobility is no longer limited to apps or dashboards but is becoming part of mainstream travel culture.

More Signs on the Way

Tesla says this is only the beginning. Additional Supercharger signs are expected to appear at more exits across the U.S., particularly in regions where interstate travel is common.

This step also comes at a time when Tesla is opening its Supercharger network to other automakers adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS). As more drivers gain access, public awareness of station locations becomes increasingly important.
