Tesla shareholders to vote on investing in xAI at next annual meeting

Tesla has stated that shareholders will vote on whether to invest in xAI at the next annual meeting, as interest in the AI startup continues to grow.

The automaker posted on X that multiple shareholders have proposed that Tesla acquire a stake in xAI, the developer of Grok. It said that in compliance with SEC rules, the annual shareholder meeting materials or proxy statement will include a proposal on the matter. The shareholder who makes the first proper submission will be invited to attend the meeting in person.

Tesla’s next shareholder meeting has been fixed for November 6. The event will be held in person in Austin, Texas, but participants can also join online. The deadline for submitting a proposal is July 31.

Elon Musk, the CEO of both xAI and Tesla, has stated that a merger between the two companies is not in the cards. However, he is open to the former investing in the latter.

xAi acquired X this year, with Grok tightly integrated into the social media platform. Musk’s other company, SpaceX, is investing $2 billion in xAI, accounting for 40 percent of the $5 billion raised by Morgan Stanley for the AI company in late June.

Tesla, meanwhile, has included Grok in the latest over-the-air software update for its cars. The company’s upcoming Optimus robot is also expected to use Grok.
