Tesla resumes FSD v12.5 rollout for HW3 cars [2024.27.10]

Tesla has started rolling out a new version of Full Self-Driving (FSD), v12.5.2.1 to some owners. The update, 2024.27.10, is another point release of FSD v12.5, but more importantly is finally providing an update to HW3/AI3 cars that have been stuck on FSD v12.3.6, some for nearly half a year.

The software update first appeared early this morning. According to third-party companion site Teslascope, the update has been released to HW3/AI3 and HW4/AI4 cars on 2024.26.10, 2024.27.5, and 2024.26.7, and while the size of this wave is relatively small, it is a good sign, considering it is the first update for some of these cars since April.

If all goes well with this initial rollout and no major bugs are found, larger waves of the update should hopefully be released later this week.

This update does not include Actually Smart Summon (ASS), as that feature is so far only included in 2024.27.20, which includes FSD v12.5.3.

Tesla originally released FSD v12.3.6 back in April. Elon Musk provided an update a few weeks later, saying that FSD v12.4 should be released by the end of May, and that it would deliver a “5 to 10x improvement in miles per intervention.” While that version did get released, it was quickly pulled due to some serious bugs/issues and never went to what is called a wide release, or the majority of the fleet.

By the end of July, Musk said FSD v12.5.1 was set for a wide release, but that update was also limited in size and scope, only being released to cars with HW4/AI4 computers. Musk said that FSD v12.5 for cars with the older HW3/AI3 computers would be released about 10 days later, but as well know it took about a month more for that update to appear, and only went to a small portion of the fleet.

According to Tesla’s recently released FSD development timeline, FSD v12.5.2 should have an approximately threefold improvement in the number of miles driven between necessary interventions. The company didn’t specify whether that was referring to FSD v12.3.6, or the limited v12.4 release mentioned above.
