Tesla has quietly updated its referral program in both Canada and the United States, removing the Model S and Model X from the list of vehicles eligible for referral incentives. The changes also affect Cybertruck discounts and loyalty rewards, reducing several incentives that had previously helped encourage owners to upgrade to a new Tesla.
The adjustments appear to be part of a broader shift in Tesla’s incentive strategy as the company prepares for changes to its flagship lineup.
Model S and Model X No Longer Eligible for Buyer Referrals
Under the latest update, buyers in Canada and the U.S. can no longer apply referral benefits when purchasing a new Model S or Model X. Previously, the referral program allowed buyers to receive a C$1,300/US$1,000 discount when using a referral link from an existing Tesla owner.
The change is not unexpected given that the Model S and Model X production is slated to end in Q2 2026. CEO Elon Musk announced the end of the two flagship vehicles at the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call last month, saying that the Fremont factory space will be repurposed for production of the humanoid robot, Optimus.
Cybertruck Referral Incentives Also Reduced
Tesla has also made changes to Cybertruck referral incentives. Buyers of the Cybertruck Premium AWD and the high-performance Cyberbeast previously received a C$1,300/US$1,000 referral discount when purchasing a new vehicle.
That discount has now been removed. Instead, new buyers will receive three months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) access as the referral reward on both Canada and the United States.
Tesla had already begun scaling back Cybertruck referral incentives earlier this month by removing the AWD variant—now priced at $69,990—from the referral program.
Loyalty Discount Cut in Half
Existing Tesla owners will also notice a smaller loyalty reward when purchasing another vehicle.
In Canada, the loyalty discount has been reduced from $1,300 to $650 when buying a new Model S, Model X, or Cybertruck. The dual-motor Cybertruck AWD is not eligible for this discount.
A similar change has taken place in the U.S., where the loyalty incentive has dropped from $1,000 to $500.
