Tesla Reaches Milestone: 2 Million+ Model Ys Sold

Tesla has achieved an impressive milestone by recording sales of over 2 million Model Ys. This milestone was achieved in just 3 and a half years. This quarter, Model Y will surpass the combined sales of Model 3 to become the best-selling electric vehicle of all time.

Tesla continues to increase production and sales of its cars. Today, Model Y is the undisputed leader and best-selling model of the manufacturer. The production ramp-up is impressive, but not surprising, given that it is produced in four Tesla factories around the world: Fremont factory, Giga Shanghai, Giga Berlin, and Giga Texas. The focus on Model Y production has paid off and the company is celebrating another milestone.

CleanTechnica reader Madan Rajan noted that Tesla has sold more than 2 million Model Ys, an impressive milestone achieved in just 3 and a half years since the vehicle hit the market. “Tesla Model Y launched on 2020-23 crossed 2 million mark in 2023-08 in just 3½ years,” Rajan wrote. “Wonderful record.”

The first deliveries of the compact crossover were made in March 2020. The car quickly gained popularity and became not only the most desirable electric car, but also began to displace competitors with internal combustion engines. Elon Musk predicted that Model Y would become the best-selling car, regardless of powertrain type, in the world, and he was right. According to the data available today (from January to July), Model Y is the best-selling car in the world.

According to current information, Tesla has sold about 2.16 million Model Ys, which is slightly lower than its older sibling. Model 3 sales are around 2.2 million. In Q4 2023, Model Y sales will surpass Model 3 sales and the crossover will become the best-selling electric vehicle of all time.
