Tesla is kicking off the fourth quarter with a major production ramp at Giga Shanghai, signaling renewed confidence in demand and a drive to maintain momentum following its strongest delivery quarter to date.
Grace Tao, Vice President of Tesla China, confirmed the ramp-up in a post on Weibo, saying the company’s largest global manufacturing hub “has recently begun its fourth-quarter production ramp-up.”
She added, “In the third quarter of 2025, Tesla delivered a total of 497,000 new vehicles worldwide, setting a new quarterly delivery record. As the fourth quarter begins, our colleagues at the Shanghai factory are working hard to expand production and fully charge their vehicles, so that car owners in China and Asia-Pacific can receive their vehicles as soon as possible.”
Tesla’s Giga Shanghai has been and remains a cornerstone of the company’s global operations, serving as its global export hub, producing vehicles for both domestic customers and export markets across Asia and Europe, and Canada for a brief period in 2023 until 100% tariffs were imposed on Chinese-made EVs by the Canadian government.
The facility, which typically contributes more than half of Tesla’s annual deliveries—has become known for its efficiency and build quality.
The renewed production effort comes on the heels of a recovery in Tesla’s China-made vehicle sales. According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), September sales rose 2.8% year-over-year to 90,812 vehicles, ending a two-month decline. The rebound can be attributed in part to the introduction of the new six-seater Model Y L, which has drawn considerable attention from families and larger households.
The Model Y L, built exclusively at Giga Shanghai, adds a third row of seating and a longer wheelbase, catering to growing demand for spacious electric SUVs in China’s competitive EV market. Early feedback suggests that the new configuration has improved showroom traffic and helped Tesla regain momentum in one of its most important markets.
