Tesla quietly unveils Long Range RWD Cybertruck in the Middle East

Tesla has quietly revealed a new variant of the Cybertruck — the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD). This new trim offers a combination of extended range, reduced weight, and simplified features, positioning it as an efficient alternative to the more expensive all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. However, it is not available in North America, with the new variant instead showing up in the Middle East.

When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, it was intended to come in three different variations – a single motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD, and Tri-Motor AWD. The latter two are currently available in North America through the Cybertruck AWD and Cyberbeast, but the RWD has not yet launched, but is expected to arrive sometime in 2025 after appearing on the EPA’s website earlier this year.

Earlier today Tesla announced the Cybertruck’s first global expansion to the Middle East, with deliveries expected to start in late 2025. Along with that announcment, Tesla updated their websites in those regions to include a new Long Range RWD Cybertruck variant.

According to the website, the Long Range RWD Cybertruck has an EPA-estimated range of 563km (350mi). This is a notable increase from the 523km (325mi) available on the AWD Cybertruck. Towing capacity comes in at 7,500lbs (3,402 kg), which is down from the 11,000lbs on the AWD and Tri-Motor trims, but should satisfy most light-duty hauling needs.

In terms of weight, this new RWD variant sheds 517lbs (234 kg) compared to the dual-motor AWD version, weighing in at 6,117lbs (2,775 kg). That weight reduction comes with performance tradeoffs — the 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 6.6 seconds, slower than the AWD variant, and top speed is capped at 180km/h (111mph).

Another noticeable difference is the ride height. The RWD trim has a listed ground clearance of 9.5 inches (243 mm) — far lower than the 16 inches seen on the AWD model. This all but confirms the RWD version will not include air suspension, a feature that allows the AWD trims to raise and lower their ride height depending on terrain. While this simplifies the vehicle mechanically and saves weight (and money), it will limit its off-road utility.

The RWD Cybertruck also debuts new 18-inch wheels along with new aero covers. Tesla does list an option for 20-inch wheels as well.

Other differentiating specs include a slightly lower height at 1,779.8 mm (versus 1,790.8 mm) and a reduced cargo volume of 3,385 liters (compared to 3,423.5 liters in the AWD trim). As for the truck’s bed, it will likely come with a manual tonneau cover, instead of the automatic one included on current Cyberbucks.

One of the more noticeable interior downgrades is the lack of a rear touchscreen, which has become a staple in Tesla’s latest vehicles.

By stripping out some of the more premium features and simplifying the drivetrain, Tesla is positioning the Long Range RWD Cybertruck as a more affordable, more efficient, and still very capable electric pickup. It could appeal to customers who want the distinctive Cybertruck look and utility without the need for top-tier performance or off-road prowess, and the high price.

Unfortunately, pricing remains the biggest question mark. That, along with North American availability are still unconfirmed, but hopefully we won’t have to wait long.
