Tesla has provided an update on the availability of Powershare for Cybertruck owners in the US. While the update provides some clarification on its availability south of the border, there are still some questions about whether the Powershare feature will also be available in Canada.
The Cybertruck was released in late 2023, and one of the key features of the electric truck was to be able to use it as a mobile power source, through a bidirectional charging technology feature Tesla called Powershare. However, since its launch many Cybertruck owners have not been able to use it because of a delay in its rollout.
This week, Tesla provided an update on when these owners can expect to be able to use the Powershare feature.
According to a post from the official Cybertruck account on X, Powershare will be fully functional for solar-powered homes and those equipped with Backup Switches by the end of 2024. However, for homes relying on Tesla Powerwalls, Powershare won’t be available until sometime in 2025.

Will Powershare Be Available in Canada?
With the impending launch of the Cybertruck in Canada, we are wondering if Powershare will also be available north of the border. As has been the case with some of Tesla’s other Energy products, they are first released in the US, before eventually expanding to Canada, or sometimes not at all.
We have heard rumblings from some employees that Powershare might not be available in Canada. We have reached out to Cybertruck program manager Siddhant Awasthi and lead engineer Wes Morrill on X, neither of which have responded to our questions on the availability of Powershare in Canada.
With deliveries just a few weeks away, we will likely get an answer to that question soon.
