Tesla has announced the latest milestone for 4680 battery cell production at Giga Texas, with the company revealing they produced enough cells in a single week to build over 1,000 Cybertrucks.
Tesla first started battery production at Giga Texas building 4680 cells for the Model Y. The initial ramp was slow, but had picked up steam by the end of 2022, with the factory producing 886,000 cells in seven days, which at the time was enough for 1,000 Model Ys, each with a 75kWh battery pack.
Then Tesla started building out the Cybertruck production lines at Giga Texas, which also meant a new version of the 4680 cell for the electric pickup truck with higher energy density.
Now just a few months into the production ramp for the Cybertruck, Tesla has announced they produced enough 4680 cells to build over 1,000 Cybertrucks.
Since the Cybertruck has a much larger 123kWh battery pack filled with an estimated 1,360 cells, that means Tesla produced nearly 1,4 million cells in seven days, a significant jump from the previous milestone of 886,000 during the same time frame.

While Tesla was able to build enough cells for over 1,000 Cybertrucks, the factory is not yet producing that many in a single week. According to the latest estimates, Tesla is producing between 75 and 100 Cybertrucks per day, or between 525 to 700 per week.
This lines up with statements made by Drew Baglino, SVP Powertrain and Energy Engineering at Tesla, who during the most recent earnings call that 4680 production was not a bottleneck for the Cybertruck production ramp.
“First, I just want to allay any concerns regarding 4680 limiting the Cybertruck ramp, because I’ve seen some people commenting about that. To date, 4680 production is ahead of the ramp with actually weeks of finished cell inventory. And the goal is to keep it that way, not only for Cyber, but for our future vehicle programs,” Baglino said.
