Tesla posts first monthly Supercharger map update, adding and removing locations in Canada

Tesla has updated it map of upcoming Supercharger locations, the first of what will now be monthly updates about the expansion of the fast-charging network.

The update has good and news for Canada, as many locations have been added, but also several others removed, although this is something we should expect to see as Tesla is being more transparent with their information.

Last month Tesla updated how it displays upcoming Supercharger locations on its ‘Find Us’ map. Instead of showing future locations with a targeted opening date, the company now displays future sites in one of two ways. If a site is already under construction, it says as much as on the map. If Tesla is working to bring a Supercharger to a city, the map now shows that site as ‘In Development,’ with no targeted opening date.

Along with the changes, Tesla also said it would be updating the map on a monthly basis, instead of quarterly (or longer), “to give you transparency into our short-term growth plans.”

This increased transparency means that some ‘In Development’ sites will see negotiations break down or a suitable site might not be found, resulting in them being removed from the map.

And that is what happened with this update, like Burlington and Prescott, Ontario, and Edmonton, Alberta no longer appearing as ‘In Development.’

However, the number of new sites far outweighs those that were removed, around 20 according to our count, most of them in Ontario. Since Tesla will be doing this monthly, we have decided to compile a complete list of ‘In Development’ sites across Canada, which will help us track changes in the future.
