Tesla has officially started inviting reservation holders to configure non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks in the United States, meaning general production is starting and Foundation Series production is coming to an end.
According to emails sent to early reservation holders on Thursday night, the regular Cybertrucks are priced as expected, $20,000 less than the Foundation Series.
The All-wheel Drive (AWD) Cybertruck starts at US$79,990, while the tri-motor CyberBeast starts at US$99,990.
The launch of regular Cybertrucks means now having to pay for options that were included in the Foundation Series. Probably the most notable option is Full Self-Driving (FSD), which Tesla has priced at US$7,000, compared to the current price of US$8,000.
This US$7,000 is the same amount FSD was priced at when reservations for the Cybertruck opened in 2019, with the option to add it at this discounted price only available to those that had it included it in their original reservation, meaning Tesla is honouring the order agreement and locking in FSD pricing. However, this isn’t as much of a deal now as it was when FSD was as high as $15,000 in the US in 2022, and even more so when the FSD subscription is $99 per month.
A 1-year trial of Premium Connectivity is also included in the price. Here is a list of other options that you now have to pay for, and their price:
- Cyber Wheels and Covers – $3,500 (Core wheels with All-Season Tires standard)
- White Interior color: $2,000 (Tactical Gray is standard)
- Range extender: $16,000 ($2,000 reservation required)
Unfortunately, the regular Cybertruck does not qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit in the US for regular consumers. However, it does qualify for the $7,500 tax credit for businesses and tax-exempt organizations.
Surprisingly, deliveries of these regular Cybertrucks is expected to begin this month, with some customers already reporting to have received VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers) for their orders.
Non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks for Canada
Since Tesla hasn’t even started deliveries of Foundation Series Cybertrucks in Canada (they are expected to begin later this month), early Canadian reservation holders are not yet being invited to place their orders. Given that there has been a low uptake for the Foundation Series in Canada, and with production coming to an end, the company will likely exhaust the list of customers willing to pay for them in a few months.
This means we could see regular Cybertruck orders opening up in Canada early in 2025. Given Tesla’s pricing strategy, the regular Cybertrucks should be priced as follows when they do launch in Canada:
- Cybertruck AWD – C$108,990
- Cybertbeast – C$135,990
