Tesla Opens Diner and World’s Largest Urban Supercharger in Los Angeles

Tesla has officially opened its long-awaited retro-futuristic diner and Supercharger station in Los Angeles, marking the debut of a unique dining and charging experience that blends classic American nostalgia with cutting-edge technology.

Located on Santa Monica Boulevard, the new facility combines past, present, and future – a 24-hour diner, a 1950s-style drive-in theater, and an 80-stall V4 Supercharger hub — the largest urban Supercharger station in the world.

A Vision Years in the Making

Elon Musk first teased the concept back in 2018, announcing plans for an “old-school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant” at a Tesla Supercharger site in LA. After several years of construction delays, the diner officially opened its doors on July 21, 2025.

Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s chief designer, oversaw the development of the building and its futuristic design, and was the one to officially open the location to the public, which will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Food, Tech, and Entertainment

Inside, the Tesla Diner offers a classic menu curated by renowned chef Eric Greenspan. Signature items include the Tesla Burger, fried chicken and waffles, hot dogs, and house-made cinnamon rolls, alongside all-day breakfast options and “epic” bacon, a term Musk reportedly used when reviewing menu selections. You can check out the full menu on Tesla’s website.

All meals are prepared using sustainably sourced, local ingredients — many from suppliers within the range of a single Tesla charge.

Tesla vehicles parked at the Supercharger can order meals directly through the in-car touchscreen. A geofenced ordering system detects when a driver is 15–20 minutes away, prompting the kitchen to prepare the meal for timely pickup or delivery to the vehicle.

Guests can also dine inside, even on a rooftop seating area that offers views of the neighbourhood, and the two massive 45-foot screens playing movies and entertainment clips for guests as their cars charge.

In addition to food and charging, Tesla is capitalizing on the diner’s appeal with exclusive merchandise and collectibles, making it as much a brand experience as a dining stop. Among them is exclusive gummy candy, which Tesla first trademarked last year, as well as apparel and another exclusive – an all-black Tesla Bot Action Figure.

For an extra futuristic twist, Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus is even serving popcorn to diners.

The Largest Urban Supercharger Hub

The LA diner is more than a restaurant — it also functions as Tesla’s largest urban Supercharger location in the world. Equipped with 80 V4 charging stalls, the site also supports all NACS-compatible electric vehicles. The integration of charging, dining, and entertainment is intended to turn the typical EV charging stop into a seamless, enjoyable experience.

A Glimpse at the Future

Musk has already hinted that the LA diner is just the beginning. If the concept proves successful, Tesla plans to roll out similar diner-Supercharger hybrids in other major cities and along long-distance travel routes. “If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, Tesla will establish these worldwide,” Musk wrote on X.

If that happens, and its success seems more likely than not, then we already know the location of the first Tesla Diner outside of LA. On Monday Musk said ok to building the next diner at Starbase, Texas.

Now that the facility is open, it is expected to serve 2,000–2,500 guests daily, with its combination of premium comfort food, high-speed charging, and immersive entertainment setting a new standard for what an EV charging station can be.
