Tesla on track to introduce new affordable models by June 2025

Fresh on the heels of launching the new Model Y, Tesla has reaffirmed its plans to introduce more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) in the first half of 2025. While details remain scarce, the company has made it clear that these upcoming models will incorporate aspects of its next-generation platform alongside elements from its current vehicle lineup.

For years, Tesla has been the dominant force in the EV market, setting the benchmark with vehicles like the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. However, affordability has long been a hurdle for widespread adoption.

In 2023 Tesla signaled that more affordable models would be coming in the second half of 2025, but early last year Tesla moved that timeline ahead to the first half of the year, saying the accelerated timeline was due to Tesla using both current and next-generation manufacturing techniques on existing production lines, allowing the company to scale production more efficiently.

After reaffirming the timeline in the Q3 2024 report, Tesla again committed to a launch of these new affordable models in its Q4 2024 shareholder deck, saying they “remain on track for start of production in the first half of 2025.”

With that window closing in just over five months, it is a good sign that Tesla is reaffirming these plans yet again, and it appears all but certain we will see these new models introduced in the coming months.

Although Tesla has yet to confirm the exact nature of these vehicles, the company did give us a hint at some of the features that may be included. In its latest shareholder deck, Tesla outlined the technologies from the Cybertruck that would make its way into “future vehicles.” These technologies include:

  • Giga-castings
  • Integrated Audio with Body Structure
  • 48-Volt Electrical Architecture
  • 800-Volt Battery System
  • Etherloop Communication Architecture
  • Bidirectional Charging (Powershare)
  • Custom Laminated Glass
  • Adaptive Air Suspension
  • Steer-by-Wire
  • Rear-Wheel Steering

With a likely price around US$30,000, it would be difficult for Tesla to include all of these premium features. Which do you think will make it into the upcoming affordable models? Let us know in the comments below.
