Tesla has officially stopped offering Full Self-Driving (FSD) as a standalone purchase option in Canada and the United States. While buyers in North America can no longer pay upfront to permanently unlock FSD, Tesla is continuing to offer the feature as part of its premium Luxe Package on select flagship vehicles.
The change took place on Valentine’s Day, as announced by CEO Elon Musk during the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call last month. The change means customers can no longer purchase FSD outright for a one-time fee, which previously cost C$11,000 in Canada and US$8,000 in the United States. Instead, access to FSD is now limited to a subscription plan for $99 per month in either country, or bundled packages.
While FSD is no longer available in North America, Tesla has confirmed that outright FSD purchases remain available in some international markets, including Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, but only through March 31, the same deadline Tesla has set for the expiration of FSD transfers.
Despite removing the standalone purchase option, Tesla has retained the Luxe Package for the Model S, Model X, and Cyberbeast variant of the Cybertruck. The bundle includes Full Self-Driving (Supervised), free lifetime Supercharging, lifetime Premium Connectivity, and additional service coverage, offering buyers a comprehensive package of premium ownership benefits.
Tesla’s decision to keep the Luxe Package available is likely because it won’t be around for much longer, with Model S and Model X production expected to wind down in the coming months. When sales of the Model S/X end in Q2, it will likely be the end of the Luxe Package on the Cyberbeast as well.
As we previously reported, Tesla has also updated the ownership terms associated with the Luxe Package. Previously, FSD purchased outright could transfer with the vehicle to a new owner, but that is no longer the case. According to Tesla, only “the remainder of the Recommended Maintenance, Wheel and Tire Protection Plan, and Windshield Protection Plan will transfer automatically to the buyer.” However, “FSD (Supervised), Free Supercharging and Premium Connectivity will terminate once the ownership of the Model S, Model X, or Cybertruck is transferred.”
This change significantly affects resale value considerations, as future owners will not inherit the bundled software and connectivity perks. Instead, these benefits are now tied exclusively to the original purchaser.
