Tesla has completed their second monthly map update, and it was a fairly big one for Canada. In total 14 new sites were added as either ‘in development’ or ‘under construction’ across the country, while another 12 were removed.
Earlier this summer Tesla announced a change to how it reports future Supercharger locations. The change was made with the promise to update their map of upcoming locations on a monthly basis to improve transparency around the Supercharger development process. This means sites can be added on a regular basis, but at the same time, removed just as quickly.
The first monthly update in October was a good one for Canada, with 20 new sites added across the country. Now into the third week of November and Tesla has updated their map again, and this time 14 sites have been added, but also 12 sites have been removed.
[Just to clarify, as we got this question a number of times whenever we post about Supercharger map updates, when we say that a site has been removed, that doesn’t mean an actual Supercharger has been demolished. This simply refers to sites that Tesla has marked as potential future locations that have since been removed from the map as they were unable to negotiate a contract to secure these locations.]
In this update the winner is British Columbia, with 7 new locations added, including three new ‘in development’ sites on Vancouver Island in Comox, Parksville, and Nanaimo. Additionally, two in Vancouver that are already under construction have popped up – one at Smithe and Richards in downtown, and another in East Vancouver on Kaslo St between Broadway and Grandview (more on that project here).
In the interior Nakusp has re-emerged as a potential Supercharger location after previously being removed (at the same location we told you two years ago), while Terrace has also been added, marking a significant development that could open up a large portion of the province to Tesla drivers. There was also one potential site removed in Merritt.
Alberta only gets one new addition in this update, but it is also a significant one in Grand Prairie.
Ontario meanwhile was on the losing end of this update, with 8 potential sites removed from the list. Two were also added in Milton and Kingston. The potential sites removed were in:
- London
- Waterloo
- Etobicoke
- Toronto
- Thornhill
- Richmond Hill
- Newmarket
Quebec rounds out this month’s update with four additions and three potential sites removed. The additions are in Chambly, Mont-Royal, Mirabel, and Drummondville, while the sites no longer in development are in Montreal, Sherbrooke, and Rivière-du-Loup.
You can find all of these updates on our Supercharger map below, or on Tesla’s website.
