Tesla Model Y registrations in Sweden surge by 500% after slump

Tesla may be staging a comeback in Sweden after a run of unimpressive monthly sales. The automaker’s car registration jumped by almost 500 percent as the Model Y regained the best-seller crown in September.

It is a welcome development for Tesla, which saw sales decline by 53.7 percent in May in the same market, sending the electric SUV to fourth place in the ranking despite Tesla’s marketing push. However, things have turned around as sales shot up by 492 percent from August numbers, according to data from Car.info. (via Teslarati)

The dramatic rise is in line with comments by Tesla’s Berlin factory boss, Andre Thierig, who stated that the company is revising production targets after seeing demand growing in multiple markets across Europe. Giga Berlin, meanwhile, is already stretched to the limits in terms of production capacity.

While this is positive news for Tesla, it is notable that the performance in Sweden was still a dip compared to the same period last year, according to CarUp.

Used Tesla sales are also booming. Electric car retailer Carla reported that second-hand Teslas appreciated in value by about 10 percent between June and August, and the improvement was significant enough to help the EV dealer return to profitability.

Meanwhile, Tesla is also performing well in the world’s largest auto market, as sales rebounded in China by 40 percent in August.
