Tesla Model Y Juniper prototype sporting front bumper camera spotted in public

Keen observers have posted a video of a never-before-seen Model Y Juniper. The electric prototype sports a camera on the front bumper that may assist with parking.

Many fans were disappointed when Elon Musk revealed the Model Y Juniper refresh would not be coming out this year. However, they will be excited to see evidence that Tesla is getting closer to unveiling the refreshed SUV as eager eyes have spotted what could be a trial production version in California.

Unlike the earlier sighting that showed details of the back, the new prototype provides a glimpse of the front despite the camouflage. A hole is visible on the material covering the bumper, akin to the front camera on the Cybertruck.

If the Cybertruck’s camera function is anything to go by, the bumper camera on the Model Y Juniper will not be used just for autonomous driving. According to a Tesla video on the Cybertruck, it will most likely help to “increase visibility ahead during low-speed parking and offroading” driving.

However, the bumper camera may be missing on the finalized Model Y Juniper, as with the Model 3 Highland. It had prototypes with similar cameras that did not make the cut in the final production version.

Tesla has promised new models early in 2025, which will likely include the Juniper update. The new Model Y is expected to offer a larger battery and new styling. There have been reports that trial production of the new Model Y has begun in China.
