Tesla Model Y gets big inventory discounts in North America ahead of refresh

Tesla has introduced some significant discounts to its existing Model Y inventory in North America. The discounts have been applied to Model Y vehicles ahead of the debut of the refresh version in Canada and the US.

Tesla launched the Model Y refresh last week, marking the first major redesign of the world’s best selling vehicle. However, the debut was only in China and other Asia-Pacific markets, with Europe and North America still only having the “legacy” Model Y available to purchase.

With production underway at Giga Shanghai, we learned just a few days later that Giga Berlin has also started producing the new Model Y, meaning a launch for Germany and other European markets is coming soon. While we have yet to hear news of Giga Texas or Fremont starting production, Tesla is now giving out some big discounts on existing inventory of the Model Y in Canada and the US.

Model Y Discounts in Canada

In Canada we were able to find discounts available on the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) of over $4,000, while discounts on the Performance variants are lower at around $1,500. However, add in a $1,300 referral discount (you can use our link), and the discounts can be even higher.

Here is a Model Y Long Range AWD in Ultra Red with a tow hitch for $65,980 in Toronto. That is a discount $4,210 off the regular price of $70,190, but with the referral, that price drops to $64,680, or $5,510 off. Or this Performance model, also in Toronto, for $72,410, a $1,460 discount, or $2,760 with a referral.

We were able to find these kinds of discounts on dozens of Model Ys across the country, so be sure to enter your postal code on Tesla’s existing inventory website to see Model Ys that are available near you.

Keep in mind that Tesla recently raised prices on all Model Y trims by $1,000, a move that eliminated them from eligibility for the federal iZEV rebate, which has since been paused indefinitely after running out of money.

Model Y Discounts in the US

Of course there are also inventory discounts on the Model Y in the US, and making the deal even sweeter is that many of these are eligible for the federal $7,500 tax credit.

So far discounts only appear to be available on the Long Range AWD, with the discounts ranging from $1,000 off, to over $2,000.

One of the biggest discounts we were able to find in a quick search was this Model Y LR AWD in Stealth Grey in Colorado with a $2,450 discount. Add in the $7,500 tax credit, Colorado’s $3,850 EV incentive, and a $500 referral discount, and you could get this new Model Y for just under $40,000. Or how about this Solid Black Model Y LR AWD in Idaho, with a $2,020 discount, pushing the total price to just above $40,000 with the tax credit and referral discount.

These discounts are a good sign that Tesla is preparing to launch the new Model Y in North America. Tesla has done this before with other refreshes, and with the Model Y being their best-selling product, they don’t want to wait too long before announcing the new refresh version for North America to avoid having a big impact on sales. So if you don’t mind having a “legacy” Model Y, you can pick one up now for a pretty good deal.
