Tesla Launches Pre-Paid Supercharger Cards in China With Limited-Edition Perk

Tesla has rolled out a new Supercharger Charging Card program in Mainland China, giving owners the ability to prepay for Supercharging using fixed kilowatt-hour (kWh) bundles rather than paying per session.

The cards are available directly through the Tesla app or on the company’s website, and introduce a more flexible, account-based approach to charging—one that also includes a limited-edition physical collectible tied to Tesla’s V4 Supercharger rollout in China.

Three Charging Card Options

Tesla currently offers three Supercharger Card tiers, each targeting a different type of driver:

  • Supercharger Card (Commemorative Edition) – ¥800
Includes 500 kWh of electricity, equivalent to about 2,500 km of driving based on a Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD). After activation, owners can follow Tesla’s official WeChat account, Tesla Charging Life, and apply to receive a limited-edition (10,000 units) magnetic bottle opener commemorative card themed around Tesla’s V4 Supercharger launch in China.
  • Supercharger Card (Enjoyable Version) – ¥599
Includes 400 kWh, or roughly 2,000 km of range, offering a lower upfront option for frequent Supercharger users.
  • Supercharger Card (Trial Version) – ¥79
Designed for lighter use, this entry-level option includes 50 kWh, or approximately 250 km of driving range, with a shorter validity period.

How Activation and Usage Work

After selecting one of the nine card designs available, which include Tesla vehicles, Optimus, the Robovan, and more, buyers have 30 days to activate their charging card. Once activated, the Commemorative and Enjoyable versions are valid for 180 days, while the Trial version expires after 30 days.

Charging with one of these Supercharger cards is seamless. When a vehicle plugs in at any Tesla Supercharger in Mainland China, electricity is automatically deducted from the card balance. If multiple cards are active on an account, Tesla prioritizes the card with the nearest expiration date. If other free or promotional charging mileage exists on the account, the Supercharger Card balance is deducted first.

Account-Based and Transferable—With Limits

Supercharger Cards are tied to the owner’s Tesla account, not an individual vehicle, meaning all vehicles under the same account can use the balance. Cards can also be transferred to another Tesla owner account before activation, making them great gift ideas.

However, once a card is transferred, accepted, or activated, it cannot be unbound or refunded. Each order is limited to 10 cards, though there is no overall cap on how many cards an account can purchase.

Why This Matters

This Supercharger Card system represents one of Tesla’s clearest moves toward prepaid energy products, aligning well with Chinese consumer preferences for digital wallets and bundled services. It also hints at how Tesla could experiment with new Supercharging payment models globally—especially as charging infrastructure, utilization, and pricing strategies continue to evolve.

For now, the program remains exclusive to Mainland China, but it may offer a glimpse into the future of how Tesla monetizes fast charging beyond simple per-kWh billing.
