Another senior Tesla leader is moving on. Jose del Corral, who led product for customer experience, has announced he is departing the company after nearly eight years to join Coinbase.
The move marks yet another departure during a period of broader leadership changes across Tesla, including multiple exits tied to the CyberCab program and other key areas of the business.
“After almost 8 years at Tesla, I’m joining Coinbase to lead Customer Experience,” del Corral said in a post on X. “Very few companies get a chance to help rebuild the financial system from the ground up. Hard to think of a more important place to be right now.”
He added that he is “ready to build” alongside Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and the broader leadership team.
Nearly eight years shaping Tesla’s customer journey
Del Corral joined Tesla in 2018 as a Senior Staff Product Manager focused on customer acquisition, before moving into a senior management role overseeing customer experience initiatives.
Over time, he took on increasing responsibility within Tesla’s digital and product teams, eventually becoming Head of Product for Customer Experience in late 2024.
In that role, del Corral was responsible for key aspects of Tesla’s customer journey, including digital touchpoints like the mobile app, online ordering experience, and service-related interactions—areas that have become central to Tesla’s direct-to-consumer model.
His tenure coincided with a period of rapid growth for Tesla, as the company expanded its global footprint, increased deliveries, and continued refining its ownership experience through software and streamlined service processes.
Another departure amid ongoing changes
Del Corral’s exit adds to a growing list of recent departures at Tesla across engineering, manufacturing, and leadership roles.
Among them are Sendil Palani, Tesla’s Vice President of Finance, who stepped down after 17 years, and Thomas Dmytryk, an engineering leader who helped build Tesla’s over-the-air software infrastructure and Robotaxi platform.
Tesla has also seen multiple departures tied to its CyberCab program, including Vehicle Program Manager Victor Nechita and manufacturing leader Mark Lupkey, both of whom left following early production milestones.
While leadership turnover is not unusual for a company of Tesla’s size and pace, the steady stream of exits across different departments highlights the demanding nature of the company as it continues to push into new areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous mobility.
Moving to Coinbase
Del Corral confirmed he will be joining Coinbase as Vice President of Customer Experience, marking a shift from the automotive and energy sector into the cryptocurrency industry.
The move puts del Corral one of the largest digital asset platforms in the world, where he will oversee customer experience efforts as the company continues to expand its products and services.
“Very few companies get a chance to help rebuild the financial system from the ground up,” he said, highlighting the appeal of Coinbase’s mission.
