Tesla’s long-anticipated Full Self-Driving (FSD) v14 is about to enter early access, with CEO Elon Musk hinting again at major leaps in autonomy and vehicle behaviour.
In a post on X on Thursday, Musk said version 14.0 will begin reaching early wide release testers next week, followed by v14.1 about two weeks later. A subsequent update, v14.2, is expected to push the technology even further, with Musk saying it will “feel almost like it is sentient.”
The update will only be for vehicles equipped with AI4 hardware, leaving those with AI3-equipped vehicles wondering what the future holds for them.

FSD v14 Release Notes
Although Tesla hasn’t revealed any information about what to expect in v14, other than Musk’s post above and previous comments that it will include elements of the special FSD build being used by the Austin robotaxis, several rumored upgrades have surfaced. According to @TeslaClubTurkey on X, who reportedly saw an early version of the release notes for v14, here’s what we might see rolling out to cars next week.
- 48Hz camera input for smoother, more responsive driving.
- Private road navigation without maps, allowing the system to handle areas where detailed mapping doesn’t exist.
- Autopilot will be permanently replaced with Autosteer by FSD, marking the transition to a unified vision-only autonomy stack.
- Smarter parking abilities, including the ability to autonomously park itself at a chosen destination.
- Improved speed profiles to better adapt to traffic conditions.
- Better gradient handling, enhancing performance on steep roads.
What About AI3?
As we noted above, one crucial detail for Tesla owners is that FSD v14 will only be available to cars equipped with Tesla’s latest AI4 hardware. This system, first introduced in newer Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y builds, offers more processing power and sensor efficiency than the legacy AI3 platform, previously referred to as HW3.
For owners of vehicles with AI3 hardware, Tesla has given no indication that FSD v14, or any update subsequent to the current v12.6.1 will be made available. That has raised concerns among long-time customers who invested in FSD early, as the last significant FSD update for these vehicles was nearly a year ago when v12.6 was released late last year.
