Tesla FSD Goes Public in Australia and New Zealand

Tesla has officially rolled out its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software to the general public across Australia and New Zealand. Beginning today, all Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) can access the system through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Tesla had launched FSD in these two countries last month, but the feature was available to only a select few people who were granted access through the Early Access Program in order to further validate the system before a wider rollout. Now FSD is available to any Tesla owner down under.

Just like in North America, upgrading to FSD does not come cheap. Australian customers can purchase FSD (Supervised) outright for A$10,100 or NZ$10,900, which works out to around C$9,000-$9,300. Early adopters who bought in years ago paid as little as A$7,500 (C$6,800).

Tesla will also soon introduce a subscription model priced at A$149 per month (NZ$159), allowing drivers to try the service without the large upfront cost, according to techAU.

For many, the subscription option could prove more practical. At current rates, a driver would need to subscribe for over five and a half years before surpassing the outright purchase price. Tesla expects many owners to opt in temporarily, such as during long road trips, and then pause the service when not needed.

Currently, only HW4-equipped vehicles are supported, leaving owners of older HW3 Teslas waiting for a timeline. Tesla has not yet confirmed when or if these vehicles will receive the update.
