Tesla is preparing yet again to expand its popular SUV lineup in China with a new variant — the Model Y+, a Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD) version that promises to deliver the highest driving range of any Model Y yet.
According to a filing submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) this week, the new Model Y+ carries the model code TSL6480BEVBR0 and maintains the same exterior dimensions as the existing five-seat Model Y. It measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,624 mm in height, and features a 2,890 mm wheelbase.
Despite the identical proportions, the key difference lies beneath the bodywork — a single-motor configuration paired with a new battery pack from LG Energy Solution.
The filing marks the final regulatory step before the vehicle can officially enter production and sales in the country.

This setup mirrors the recently launched Model 3+, which offers up to 830 km (516 miles) of CLTC-rated range and has proven popular with efficiency-focused buyers in China. Industry observers expect the Model Y+ to achieve a similar figure, with estimates of around 800 km (497 miles) on a full charge — potentially making it Tesla’s longest-range SUV to date.
With 225 kW (302 hp) of power, the Model Y+ should provide similar performance to the Model 3+ sedan, balancing extended range with smooth single-motor efficiency.

The Model Y+ is expected to be positioned between the current Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) versions in Tesla’s China lineup. Both the Long Range and the upcoming “+” variant utilize ternary lithium-ion batteries supplied by LG Energy Solution, while the base model continues to use CATL’s lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) pack.
Public comments on the MIIT filing will remain open from October 10–15, after which Tesla will be cleared to begin production at Giga Shanghai. Once approved, the Model Y+ will likely enter production within weeks.
