Tesla expands Marine Blue to more markets – but Canada is still waiting

Tesla is expanding the availability of its newer Marine Blue paint colour to a growing list of international markets. Once limited to the Model Y in Europe, the deeper blue shade is now rolling out across Asia-Pacific for both the Model Y and Model 3, but still hasn’t arrived in Canada, leaving buyers wondering how long they’ll have to wait to get Tesla’s newest colour.

Over the past few weeks, Tesla has expanded Marine Blue availability for the Model 3 in additional markets including Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Thailand. At the same time, the colour has debuted for the first time in major right-hand-drive and Asia-Pacific regions such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

The addition of Marine Blue also means the end of Deep Blue Metallic in those markets, a colour that has been part of Tesla’s lineup for years. Marine Blue offers a noticeably richer tone, appearing darker and more saturated in low light while revealing a vibrant blue hue under direct sunlight.

One of the most important takeaways from this expansion is manufacturing-related. Marine Blue is no longer exclusive to Giga Berlin. Giga Shanghai in China—responsible for supplying vehicles to much of Asia-Pacific and several export markets—has now begun producing vehicles in this colour, leaving only the company’s U.S. factories not producing vehicles in Marine Blue.

So when might Canada see Marine Blue? The answer depends largely on where each vehicle is built. Canadian-bound Model Y vehicles are now supplied from Giga Berlin, where Marine Blue has already been available, making its absence in Canada somewhat surprising.

The Model 3 is a different case, as Canadian units are built in the United States and remain subject to tariffs. Without Marine Blue in production at Fremont, the colour won’t reach Canadian Model 3 orders in the near term, and then even if it does, it will be at inflated prices.
