Tesla ends Foundation Series sales, opens Cybertruck orders to everyone in the US

Tesla has officially ended sales of the Foundation Series Cybertrucks in the US. With the end of the Foundation Series, that means Tesla has also opened up order for the regular versions of the Cybertruck to everyone, without needing an existing reservation.

When Tesla launched the Cybertruck in late 2023, the company started off by offering the electric truck in a “limited edition” Foundation Series spec. The Foundation Series included both the Dual Motor AWD and Tri-Motor Cyberbeast variants, but what set them apart was the inclusion of a number of accessories and options that were included in the price.

The Foundation Series, and all those goodies, came at a premium however, US$20,000 above the regular pricing. This allowed Tesla to maximize profits from these early Cybertrucks while ramping production, setting the foundation (hence the name) for the eventual start of regular production.

Earlier this month Tesla opened up orders for the regular versions of the Cybertruck, but they were only available to select customers with an existing reservation. Now that is no longer the case as anyone can place an order for a Cybertruck, according to an update to the Tesla website on Thursday night.

As it was with reservation holders, the Dual Motor and Tri-Motor Cybertrucks are available for US$79,990 and US$99,990 respectively.

Placing an order today, Tesla says you could get your regular Cybertruck either this month or next.

So what does this mean for the Foundation Series? And for those with existing reservations that are now almost five years old? If you already had a Foundation Series Cybertruck ordered and are waiting for delivery, you will still get it. And if you have an existing reservation and place an order, you will take priority over someone who only made theirs.

As for Canada? Foundation Series deliveries might begin before the end of October as the first VINs have started being assigned to customers. As a result, we’ll still have to wait a while for the regular (cheaper) Cybertruck in Canada, which isn’t expected to arrive until sometime in 2025. When they do, and if Tesla keeps pricing the same, the Dual Motor should start at around C$109,000 and the Cyberbeast at around C$136,000.
