Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender now coming in early 2025

The release date for the Cybertruck Range Extender has been pushed back, and is now coming early next year. According to an update to Tesla’s website, production of the range extender is now expected to begin in early 2025. Previously the website said production would begin in late 2024.

Tesla first released the Cybertruck’s specs in November last year, and the official range rating was lower than originally advertised in 2019. Elon Musk initially promised the truck could go as far as 500 miles (804km) between charges, but when it was released the highest range offered was 340 miles (547km). However, Tesla had a solution to get the electric truck closer to its original specs, offering a battery extender to reach 470 miles (756km).

But the battery accessory won’t come cheap. Ahead of production slated for early next year, buyers will have to pay a non-refundable fee of C$700/US$500 for priority placement when installation starts. The battery itself costs C$22,000/US$16,000.

The installation will have to be done by certified technicians at a Tesla service center. Once it is installed the extra battery itself will not be easily removable and take up about one-third of the Cybertruck’s bed.
