Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially announced that production of the Cybercab will begin in the second quarter of 2026. The update came during the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call on Wednesday.
The announcement gives us the clearest timeline yet for Tesla’s fully autonomous vehicle program. When the Cybercab was originally unveiled in October 2024 at the ‘We, Robot’ event in Hollywood, Musk said vehicle production could begin in 2026.
Now, Tesla appears to be ahead of schedule and ready to start production in the first half of the year, with Tesla adding earlier in the call that volume production would also be reached in 2026.
Along with the timeline, Musk confirmed that the Cybercab will be produced without a steering wheel or pedals, ending months of speculation that Tesla might include traditional controls in the first production version.
“At this point I feel 100% confident that we can sell unsupervised full self-driving at a safety level much greater than human,” Musk said.
Based on what we have seen, Cybercab production will take place exclusively at Giga Texas, where for the past several months work has been taking place to add new equipment to support the Cybercab’s new unboxed manufacturing process.
Musk has said the Cybercab will deliver an operational cost of approximately $0.20 per mile, positioning it as both an affordable transportation option and a scalable business model for Tesla’s ride-hailing program.
