Tesla confirms Semi factory progress, first trucks to roll off production line by end of 2025

Tesla has provided an update on the progress of its dedicated Semi factory near Giga Nevada, confirming that the first production units of its all-electric Class 8 truck are expected to roll off the end of the production line before the end of 2025.

The announcement came via a new video shared Monday from the new Tesla Semi account on X, featuring Dan Priestley, the Semi program lead.

According to Priestley, the facility, which is being constructed alongside Tesla’s existing Gigafactory Nevada, has now completed its exterior shell, including columns, walls, and floors, and is entering the next phase of development. Over the coming months, Tesla will focus on installing production equipment and preparing the plant for high-volume manufacturing.

As previously announced by Tesla, the Semi factory is designed with an annual capacity of 50,000 units. Priestley also confirmed the previously announced production timeline.

“First units are set to be on the line by the end of this year, and we’ll be ramping the factory through 2026,” he said.

Tesla’s update comes after years of delays for the Semi. After originally being announced in 2017 with a planned production start in 2019, the company finally started deliveries of a limited number of Semis in late 2022. These vehicles have been deployed in pilot programs with companies like PepsiCo, Costco, Walmart, Sysco, and others, with Tesla also using them for their internal operations. The results of these testing programs have helped further refine and improve the design of the Semi.
