Tesla cements top EV title in Norway with Model Y dominance

Tesla sales in Norway have skyrocketed over the last quarter, and June has been no exception to the trend.

Per the Norwegian Road Federation, Tesla sales in June are up 54% year-on-year, which follows a monumental sales month for the US automaker, which saw a 213% increase in sales in May in the Scandinavian country.

The bulk of the success is coming from the revamped Model Y, which saw a 115.3% increase in yearly registrations. The reason for the popularity is that the Model Y fits the needs of everyday Norwegians. It provides ample luggage space, has a high ground clearance with a tow hitch, and its all-wheel drive capabilities are suitable for all four seasons in the Nordic country.

Norway is not the only European country that saw green sales data last month for Tesla. Portugal saw an increase of 7% while Spanish numbers were also up 61%.

However, the overall trend continues to be somewhat negative on the continent, with German sales dropping 60% and French sales also dipping. This sales dip is mainly attributed to backlash towards Tesla’s Elon Musk and his involvement with the Trump Administration.

According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, Tesla’s new car sales dropped for the fifth consecutive month in Europe, even with the strong numbers in Norway, Spain and Portugal.
