Tesla begins construction on new Supercharger in Vanderhoof [British Columbia]

Tesla is pushing deeper into northern British Columbia with the start of construction on a new Supercharger station in Vanderhoof — a key link in what will eventually become a fully connected route from Prince George to Prince Rupert.

According to a photo shared with us by Ken Duncan, the site features four V4 Supercharger stalls installed using Tesla’s latest prefabricated Supercharger Unit (PSU) design. These modular platforms contain all electrical components and charging hardware pre-assembled before being delivered to the site, significantly speeding up installation timelines.

The Vanderhoof Supercharger, now underway in the parking lot of the Co-op Food Store at 188 East Stewart St. W, will serve as one of the most strategically important additions for drivers traveling across the province’s vast northern corridor.

While small in stall count, the Vanderhoof Supercharger represents a big step forward for EV owners living in or traveling through northern BC. At present, long-distance east–west travel across this part of the province is difficult without careful planning, with drivers relying on sparse and often unreliable third-party EV chargers.

Once complete, this station will serve as the first point in a chain of future Supercharger sites planned between Prince George and Prince Rupert, helping to close a major charging gap in Western Canada. Prince George is already home to a 6-stall Supercharger and Terrace listed as “in development.”

Previously, Tesla had indicated plans to bring Superchargers to Burns Lake, Smithers, and Prince Rupert, although these locations have been temporarily removed from the map as the company continues to find a suitable location.

However, a location for Prince Rupert may have already been secured. According to information shared with Ken by the contractors in Vanderhoof, they will be heading to Terrace to install a Supercharger there next, followed by Prince Rupert.

Construction in Vanderhoof is in its early stages, but with the prefabricated units already in place, the site could open before the end of the year.
