Tesla facing $14 million fine in Germany over battery recycling

Tesla was recently issued a big fine in Germany for allegedly failing to comply with battery recycling duties.

The €12,000,000 ($14,000,000 USD) fine was levied by the German Federal Environmental Agency, and reported by Tesla in a recent filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to the filing, the California automaker says it followed appropriate procedures and recycled all its batteries that had reached the end of their useful life in an environmentally friendly manner.

Apparently German officials disagree, and levied the fine which comes from Tesla not meeting administrative requirements.

Tesla is objecting to the fine, but says even if they are unsuccessful in having it thrown out, the fine is “not expected to have a material adverse impact” on their business.
