Several Rivian R1Ts spotted in Kenya

The Rivian R1T has been spotted in an unlikely location with several of the electric pickup trucks recently arriving in Kenya, and it looks like former Rivian executive Charly Mwangi could be behind the reason why they are there.

On Tuesday at least three R1Ts were spotted on the back of a transport truck travelling along Mombasa Road by Twitter user EO (@Eugenetakesoff).

On Wednesday, several LinkedIn users shared photos of the R1Ts, indicating the electric truck’s first stop was to visit a company called Roam, which specializes in electric motorcycles, buses, charging infrastructure, and energy systems.

One such user was Erick Githinji, a R&D CAD Engineer at Roam, who shared a photo of himself with the R1T at the company’s workshop.

Another user, Eric Okumu, who works as an Electric Vehicle Research and Development Engineer at Roam, had the opportunity to get behind the wheel and test drive the R1T on local roads.

While it is unclear at this time how these R1Ts landed in Kenya, it looks like a former executive could be responsible.

Last week Rivian announced Charly Mwangi, executive vice president of manufacturing engineering was leaving the company. Mwangi was born in Kenya, and responded to the initial video of the R1Ts on the transport truck with “Finally!!! This is super exciting.”

Here are a few more photos and videos of the R1Ts in Kenya.
