Sentry Mode Helps Identify Vandal Who Keyed Tesla in Scarborough

Sentry Mode footage has helped identify a vandal who dented and then keyed a Tesla Model Y in Scarborough, Ontario.

The incident occurred over the weekend when a man, accompanied by a woman, attempted to enter his vehicle parked next to the Tesla. As he opened his door it made impact with the Model Y, denting the left passenger door. Typically in these types of videos that is it, but then a second man approaches the Tesla.

After briefly inspecting the dent, this second man somehow thought it would be a good idea to add more damage by running his keys along the Tesla, not once, not twice, but three times.

Unbeknownst to the vandals, the Tesla’s in-built security system, known as Sentry Mode, was actively recording the entire incident. Sentry Mode is a feature that uses the car’s external cameras to monitor the surroundings when the vehicle is parked and locked. If the system detects any significant movement or potential threats, it triggers an alert, flashes the headlights, and records the event.

The video of the incident was quickly shared on social media, where it garnered significant attention, both because of the brazen act of vandalism, and the clear picture of the suspects.

As the video circulated online, internet users began to piece together information that could lead to the identification of the suspect. In a matter of hours, the alleged vandal was reportedly identified through social media sleuthing.
